About the Program
The Commemorative Bench Program offers a meaningful way to honor loved ones while supporting the ongoing care and preservation of the iconic Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Developed by Torrey Pines Conservancy in partnership with California State Parks San Diego Coast District, the program reflects our shared commitment to protecting the rare Torrey pine woodlands, preserving the Reserve’s ecological and cultural treasures, and ensuring visitors continue to find inspiration and recreation here for generations to come.
Donations made through the program help fund projects that enhance access to the Reserve, enrich visitor experiences, and foster a deeper connection between Torrey Pines and the people of San Diego.

This program offers a special opportunity to honor a loved one, celebrate a milestone, or leave a lasting tribute within Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Through a donation, a personalized bronze plaque is placed on an existing bench for a 10-year term, supporting important preservation and visitor enhancement projects within the Reserve.
The program is a partnership between Torrey Pines Conservancy and California State Parks San Diego Coast District. Torrey Pines Conservancy handles donor communication, plaque design coordination, and program fundraising, while California State Parks oversees site selection, installation, and long-term bench maintenance.
Bench placements are limited to pre-approved locations selected by California State Parks. When you apply, we’ll work with you to find an available bench at a meaningful location within the Reserve, subject to final approval by the District Superintendent.
Your plaque can honor a person, celebrate an occasion, or recognize a meaningful cause. However, business promotions, advertising, and language inconsistent with State Parks’ mission or park values will not be allowed. Torrey Pines Conservancy will guide you through the wording process to ensure your message meets these guidelines.
The initial term is 10 years. Before your term ends, you’ll have the option to renew your plaque for an additional 5 years for a renewal donation. We’ll contact you well in advance to review your options.
If the bench or plaque is damaged or stolen during your initial 10-year term, Torrey Pines Conservancy will cover the cost of one repair or replacement. Additional repairs may require an additional donation. If a bench is removed due to safety concerns, we’ll work with you to find an alternative placement if possible.
No. All benches remain the property of California State Parks and are available for public use. Your plaque recognizes your donation and commemorates your honoree, but you do not own the bench itself
Yes! Torrey Pines Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You’ll receive an acknowledgment letter with necessary tax information after your donation is processed.
Any disputes will be reviewed and resolved by the California State Parks District Superintendent or their designee. Their decision is final and binding.
