We are thrilled to announce two exceptional additions to the Torrey Pines Conservancy Board of Directors, effective January 2025. Blake Lown Beers and Gabriele Wienhausen bring diverse expertise and shared passion for preserving and enhancing our beloved Reserve.
Blake Lown Beers: Marketing Innovation and Family Engagement

As Vice President of Brand Marketing at Calm, Blake Lown Beers brings valuable expertise in digital marketing, business growth, and wellness initiatives to our board. Her impressive career spans leadership roles at Facebook and Hulu, complemented by her entrepreneurial success as the founder of Little Renegades, a mindfulness startup for kids.
A University City resident and frequent visitor to Torrey Pines with her family, Blake deeply understands the Reserve’s role in promoting both mental and physical well-being. Her vision includes expanding family-oriented programs to foster multi-generational appreciation for our natural treasure. With her extensive experience in digital platforms and social media strategy, Blake is perfectly positioned to help broaden our community engagement and outreach efforts.
Gabriele Wienhausen: Education and Environmental Stewardship

Distinguished Teaching Professor Emerita Gabriele Wienhausen brings a wealth of academic expertise and hands-on Reserve experience to our board. As an active Torrey Pines Docent Society member and former board member, she maintains strong connections to our volunteer community and continues to serve as liaison to the UCSD/docent bee monitoring project.
During her 32-year career at UC San Diego, Gabriele held numerous leadership positions, including founding Faculty Director of the Teaching + Learning Commons and founding Provost of Sixth College. Her dedication to education and research in biological sciences, coupled with her experience with the San Dieguito River Conservancy, makes her uniquely qualified to enhance our educational initiatives and environmental preservation efforts.
Both Blake and Gabriele embody the diverse perspectives and deep commitment needed to guide the Torrey Pines Conservancy into the future. Their combined expertise in marketing, education, and environmental stewardship will be invaluable as we work to protect and share this extraordinary natural resource with our community.
Please join us in welcoming these outstanding individuals to our Board of Directors. We look forward to their contributions in preserving and enhancing Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve for generations to come.
