Donors find tremendous satisfaction and fulfillment in joining with others who are truly making a difference at the Reserve.
Are you 70 ½ or older?
If yes, you can make a gift to TPC directly from your Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). Through a qualified charitable distribution (also known as an IRA charitable rollover), individuals who are at least 70 ½ years old can instruct the financial institution administering their IRAs to directly transfer a gift to the Torrey Pines Conservancy.
The total amount transferable through qualified charitable distributions is capped for each donor at $100,000 per year. Although you do not receive income tax deductions for these contributions, you will avoid the taxes that would have been due had you withdrawn the funds and then made a donation.
A qualified charitable distribution counts towards the required minimum distribution that seniors must take from their IRAs each year after they are 72 years old.
So, for donors who don’t need (all of) the money from a required minimum distribution, making a donation from their IRA is a great option.
