Torrey Pines State Reserve is located on the coast between La Jolla and Del Mar, California, at the northwest edge of the City of San Diego.
From Interstate 5 South, exit on Carmel Valley Road and drive west for 1.5 miles.
- State Beach and
Los Penasquitos Lagoon
Near the west end of Carmel Valley Road, you will reach the entrance of the North Beach parking lot which is a popular access point for the State beach and Los Penasquitos Lagoon.
- Main Reserve Area and State Beach
From the North Beach parking lot on Carmel Valley Road, continue driving west to the light at North Torrey Pines Road (historic Coast Highway 101). Turn left and proceed south along the beach for about a mile to the Reserve's South Beach entry, 12600 N. Torrey Pines Road. Park here to hike along the beach.
- Visitors Center (Lodge)
From the Reserve's South Beach entry, take the internal road up the hill to the Visitors Center (Lodge).
From Interstate 5 North, exit on Genesee Avenue and drive west for 0.8 mile to North Torrey Pines Road. Continue north for 2.5 miles.
You will descend a long grade through the park, with the lagoon and beach soon visible. At the bottom of the hill, turn left to enter the South Beach lot. Park here, or continue up the hill to the Visitor Center.
